Groundbreaking

After years of praying, planning, giving, and the hard work of so many, a big dream and vision of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church is becoming a reality. On Sunday, June 6th, the members of Amazing Grace broke ground for their first church building on five and a half acres of land, adjacent to the proposed Horry County Library, Park and Recreation Center.

It was a day filled with excitement and anticipation as the congregation will construct a 7,000 sq. foot worship, education, and fellowship building that will begin taking shape in late June or early July. Smiles graced the faces of many members; especially a couple of the congregation’s longtime members. “It’s a long time coming. I’m excited to have our own building,” said Bobby and Anne Hoffman, members since 2002. The chairman of the congregation, Valentino Cuison said, “It’s great to look forward to being in the Carolina Forest Community with a building that will nurture our members as well as serve the needs of our community. The transformation happening before our eyes is exciting.”

During the congregation’s morning worship, Ben Zahn, the pastor of Amazing Grace, reminded the congregation in his message from the Old Testament book of Joshua, “God is a God who can part water. God is a God who can die for sin and live again in victory. Check his track record and you will find it is impeccable. On the basis of that track record, I dare to say, he will use this building as a tremendous blessing. It will be a place to reach the people of our community with the Good News about Jesus. It will be a place where God’s undeserved love for us reigns supreme. God has blessed us in the past. God is blessing us now. God will bless us in the future.”
